Reduce energy bills with solar panels

Photovoltaic solar panels help us reduce our energy bills. In this article, we explain how they achieve this and how new regulations have helped the resurgence of solar energy.

The ideal rate for self-consumers

The price of kWh (kilowatt-hour) in 2019 has increased again compared to last year. According to Facua, the consumer association, the cost of electricity per kWh has risen by more than 80% over the past decade. This is why an increasing number of people are opting for self-consumption.

Solar energy offers many advantages. However, if you don’t have storage batteries, you must be connected to the grid to have electricity at night. For this reason, energy suppliers such as Respira Energía offer special rates for self-consumers. The ideal rate for them is the time-of-use rate, as it offers a lower price per kWh during the night. This type of rate can be requested from customer service by phone, or if you prefer more personalized service, you can contact us (contact form hyperlink).

Favorable legislation

The new regulations on self-consumption have led to a revival of solar energy in Spain. Below, we explain the five main changes this new legislation has brought about and how it helps self-consumers save:

  • End of the sun tax. Photovoltaic solar panel users will no longer have to pay a special tax for using the sun’s free, clean energy.
  • Self-consumers will be able to feed the excess solar energy captured by their panels into the electricity grid in exchange for a discount on their electricity bills. This way, they can save even more on their bills.
  • Homeowner associations, consumer associations, or companies in an industrial estate will be able to share the operation of a solar panel farm and distribute the profits as they see fit.
  • Self-consumers will be able to install the electrical power they desire, not just the amount they have contracted for.
  • Companies will be able to operate other companies’ photovoltaic solar panel plants and share the benefits of solar energy with them.

Thanks to the new regulations, savings for self-consumers increase considerably, as they can consume solar energy for free during the day, pay a lower price at night thanks to time-of-use tariffs, and, as a result of this new legislation, feed the excess energy captured by their panels back into the electricity grid to receive a discount on their already low electricity bills. This is why the future of solar energy is bright and dazzling.
